Sport booking is the method of placing bets on a sporting event, most often football games. Traditionally, involved visiting a Sports Booking Operator who would take payment and keep track of the decision to bet. Now there are sports betting apps, which act as digital clearinghouses for bet call and payouts. While casinos that are in person are responding to the increasing popularity of betting on sports online however, they remain under threat by PASPA.

Sports booking is legal in Iowa since 2019, with online operators paying taxes and a license fee. Online operators are controlled by the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission. Sports betting is legal in Michigan where three casinos launched their sports betting operations in March 2020 – right enough to avoid the Coronavirus Pandemic. Mississippi was also interested in sports betting, and opened their first online sports betting site in 2018. However they didn’t allow mobile betting. But as sports betting becomes more popular states are increasingly accepting it.
